Middlemist Philosophy

At Middlemist Interiors, design begins with people.

Our studio takes its name from the Middlemist Camellia, believed to be one of the rarest flowers in the world. Just like this remarkable flower, every person is unique and we believe the spaces we live in should reflect that individuality.

Our philosophy is that no two homes should feel the same. Every space should be designed around the people who inhabit it, reflecting their lifestyle, personality, and the way they want to feel within their home.

Through thoughtful design, careful consideration of layout, materials, and colour, our goal is to create interiors that feel both beautiful and deeply personal.

Meet Our Designers

Victoria Sandilands

Interior Designer and Founder of Middlemist Interiors

“My journey into interior design began long before I formally trained as a designer.

After leaving school, I initially trained in hairdressing. While I enjoyed the creativity involved, I soon realised it wasn’t the path I wanted to pursue long term. Around this time, my mum taught me how to make curtains and blinds, and it was through this process that my appreciation for interiors truly began to grow. Working with fabrics, textures and colour introduced me to the impact that thoughtful design can have within a space.

Together, my mum and I went on to create a lampshade business, which I helped run for over five years. During this time I gained valuable experience in design, craftsmanship and running a creative business.

During the Covid pandemic, I launched a candle and wax melt business, designing products intended to help people create a sense of comfort and atmosphere within their homes. However, after this period I found myself reflecting more deeply on what I truly wanted to pursue.

I was given a piece of advice that became a turning point for me:
“The jobs we find the most joy in are often the things we loved doing as children.”

It was then that I realised I had always been drawn to creating spaces. As a child I would spend hours building detailed doll’s houses and designing homes in The Sims — something I still enjoy today. That moment helped me recognise that interior design had always been my true passion.

I decided to take the step to formally study interior design and begin my journey towards building a career in the industry. Now qualified, I have founded Middlemist Interiors, where my focus is on creating spaces designed around the people who live in them.

I strongly believe that the spaces we inhabit have a profound impact on how we feel. A well-considered interior can support comfort, calm and wellbeing — helping a house truly feel like home.

My goal is to help clients create interiors that feel both beautiful and deeply personal.”
